Morning Assignments
  • Day 4 Slide Show Kiosk
  • Check Stock Portfolio and print.
  • Individual Activity:  Journal writing in Journal Document Template:
    • "How can the teaching and learning strategies you use in your classroom be enhanced with the Internet?"
    Print response and place in your journal folder
  • Journal Sharing:  Small group and whole group.
Learning Theories 
  • Jigsaw:  Go to Funderstanding, click on Engaging Kids, Theories, About Learning.  Each person will choose a different learning theory from the twelve learning theories listed here.  After completing the Funderstanding About Learning Theories sheet on page 4.5, the class will share information on their theories. 
Elements Database
  • Technology Connected Lesson - Create a Database 

  • Use the Elements Step-by-Step on page 4.15 to create a database in Access.  After accessing the Periodic Table site, you will complete your Elements Fact Card.
  • One Computer Classroom Rotation:  During this activity, you are responsible for completing 3 tasks:
    • 1.  Come to the teacher workstation one at a time to enter the information from your element fact card given to you by the instructor. 
      2.  Pair with another participant to compare/contrast your element using the blank Venn diagram on page 4.29.
      3. First design on paper a fact card template for a database specific to your curriculum area.  Then following the step-by-steps and examples on pages 4.19 - 4.23, create your database based on your paper copy.
  • Classroom Management Strategy:  In/Out Boxes with a time limit.  When you have entered information at the teacher station, put the element fact card in the teacher's "In' box.
  • Whole Group Techie Moment: Access/Excel

  • How to sort and filter using the Element Database
  • Create a Venn diagram using drawing tools in MS Word.  As a guide, look at the Venn diagram where you compared/contrasted two elements.
Boyle's Gas Law
  • Technology Connected Lesson Plan - Internet & Spreadsheet/Graphing (see lesson plan and steps).  Go to Boyle's Gas Law Web site.  Learn about Boyle and review his experiment and original data.  Input original data into a spreadsheet and graph.
InfoNations
  • Technology Connected Lesson Plan:  Spreadsheet - Formulas & Graphing

  • Go to the United Nations InfoNation site to gather population and carbon dioxide emissions information about 7 countries.  Input the information into Excel.  Convert square meters to miles and figure out how many people there are per square mile and the amount of emissions per 100 people.  Graph the results.

  • Solving a Murder Mystery: Technology Connected Lesson - Using Excel to solve a mystery in small groups by eliminating suspects.  Create a table in Excel or Word.
